Halls of Learning

This past weekend, I'd been - wait for it - studying for an upcoming exam.

No, really. Like actually studying. With books and everything.

It's for ACCT 250 (Introduction to Management Accounting), which all in all isn't a bad course once you realize it's not just focused on ledgers and financial statements. In fact, it's not at all focused on those things. Although I dispised financial accounting, the content here is inspiring enough to get this math-o-phobe to consider a career as a CMA. Well, it's an option, anyway.

I had to move the exam (surprise), as I wasn't ready for it the first go-around. I was supposed to write before we left on our vacation. So, $90 later (oy), the exam was moved. I think it's this week, though it might be next. I'm thinking Friday, because I knew I didn't have two full weekends to finish everything up. And although I didn't get as much accomplished this weekend as I would have liked to, I'll be in fine shape for the exam - even though I should really confirm when it is.

It will feel amazing to get this over with. I made a pledge earlier this year to complete something like nine or ten courses. Obviously we're a little far from that. Man, what a dolt I have been.

I have realized that I am committed to my program and seeing it through. Maybe I wasn't ready for it? A lame excuse, I suppose - but best I can come up with. That, and fear of failure. Which I'll discuss with my learning counsellor on Tuesday. Though, it's the first appointment, and that may not even come up yet. I'm really not sure. And for once, I'm okay with that.

I've always known I can do this. Where was my motivation misplaced? I don't know how to answer that, but I know it's back now. In fact, in nearly every aspect of my life, it has surfaced.

Morgan painted my office this weekend. Great, refreshing zen green colour. In darker corners of the room, it looks almost steely, with touches of blue. Which is great. I either wanted zen or obnoxiously bright and fresh. In the end, I'm very glad it is not metallic yellow. She also moved the furniture - it's great.

Anyway. Back to work (lunch breaks are too short). And future success.

-R.
