Account THIS!

I'm done I'm done I'm done! :)

I'm completely caught up. Well, if you ignore that I should have finished four other courses already this year. But yes. For once, I'm starting one, without having shadows of another to tear me off-track or distract me.

I've already got ECON247 planned out. And I had a pretty good time working in my office this weekend.

Though I need to go see my lovely wife now. I miss her.

Pass Interference

Flag on the play – work, pass interference, 1st down!

Okay, so that’s my bad football analogy.  But hey, I’m not exactly a sports nut.

Absolutely had to work late.  So I had to move my appointment.  Less than impressed.  Thoughts of how I love my job, but not always the organization, play through my head.  Maybe I’ll talk about this on Monday?

Okay, three positive things to make this better:
-I love my new home office
-The Senate passed the same-sex marriage bill, which is expected to receive Royal Assent later today
-The government is pursuing a serious red-tape reduction, automatically granting citizenship to children adopted abroad

There.  That’s better.

Lend Me An Ear

Tonight, I have my long-awaited appointment with a learning counselor, courtesy of my work's EAP. Well, not that long-awaited. It could have been much earlier, but there was vacation to contend with (yes, it could have been earlier than that, too - but let's not go there today).

At first, I was pretty apprehensive, but now I'm really looking forward to it. I have come a long way in indentifying areas of my life which I would like to see improvement, and it will be very refreshing and reassuring to speak to an outsider about it. An outsider that may actually have some tangible advice and guidance!

Building catalogue spreads today. This is my favorite part of the book - all the really hard work is done. Now I get to drink tea, cut and paste, and use scissors and markers. As I dedicate the whole day to it, it's an excellent way to relieve workplace-induced stress.

Your mission for today: Buy some crayons. Go wild.

Rat Race

I have a feeling that this is going to be a very long week, career wise.

Time-sucking Monday meeting, project changes, new schedules and timelines…

I think the biggest problem is that no one seems to know what we are racing towards!  Soon, though, I will be home, and that will be swell.

Halls of Learning

This past weekend, I'd been - wait for it - studying for an upcoming exam.

No, really. Like actually studying. With books and everything.

It's for ACCT 250 (Introduction to Management Accounting), which all in all isn't a bad course once you realize it's not just focused on ledgers and financial statements. In fact, it's not at all focused on those things. Although I dispised financial accounting, the content here is inspiring enough to get this math-o-phobe to consider a career as a CMA. Well, it's an option, anyway.

I had to move the exam (surprise), as I wasn't ready for it the first go-around. I was supposed to write before we left on our vacation. So, $90 later (oy), the exam was moved. I think it's this week, though it might be next. I'm thinking Friday, because I knew I didn't have two full weekends to finish everything up. And although I didn't get as much accomplished this weekend as I would have liked to, I'll be in fine shape for the exam - even though I should really confirm when it is.

It will feel amazing to get this over with. I made a pledge earlier this year to complete something like nine or ten courses. Obviously we're a little far from that. Man, what a dolt I have been.

I have realized that I am committed to my program and seeing it through. Maybe I wasn't ready for it? A lame excuse, I suppose - but best I can come up with. That, and fear of failure. Which I'll discuss with my learning counsellor on Tuesday. Though, it's the first appointment, and that may not even come up yet. I'm really not sure. And for once, I'm okay with that.

I've always known I can do this. Where was my motivation misplaced? I don't know how to answer that, but I know it's back now. In fact, in nearly every aspect of my life, it has surfaced.

Morgan painted my office this weekend. Great, refreshing zen green colour. In darker corners of the room, it looks almost steely, with touches of blue. Which is great. I either wanted zen or obnoxiously bright and fresh. In the end, I'm very glad it is not metallic yellow. She also moved the furniture - it's great.

Anyway. Back to work (lunch breaks are too short). And future success.

New!

A new blog; part of a fresh start. When I have time, my Xanga site will soon dissapear. And then everyone can read this and subscribe and comment. True internet journalisim? Maybe not. Freedom? A little.

I've changed today. It's a good thing.
