Holiday Hours

There is something endearing about working on a holiday – especially a funny one like August long.  And especially this one, with the fantastically hot weather we’ve had.

You wake up in the morning, and it still feels like a weekend.  I took a leisurely approach to eating breakfast and making lunch, taking time to stand on the balcony and breathe in the air that’s been flavored by the sunrise an hour before.

No traffic.  Warm beginnings to a hot day.  And at the office – almost a perfect solitude.  Although there are a few people here (just call centre staff, mostly), the rest of the company has been abandoned by the crew for an extra day of play.

I get so much done on days like this.  Part of it is likely that there is nobody to drop anything else on my desk.  Part of it is the ownership I feel over my work, being one of the few here.

The biggest part, though, is tapping into that holiday vibe that still rings through those that are here working. Everyone is very relaxed.  Even the boss is in jeans.

It won’t be a tough day at all.  But at the end, everyone here will have crossed a lot of items off their hit list.  On any other day, they’d be exhausted from that kind of performance.  But today – it’s almost par for the course.  We’ll go home an reclaim what’s left of the ‘long’ weekend, and start our daily grind – along with our colleagues – tomorrow.

Hey, just because you update 15 times on the weekend, and I updated, well, zero times... okay, I get the point.
