No, Really. Has It Changed?

Four years ago, the war on terror came to the forefront.

Do you remember what the world was like before that? Or, at least, our western version of said world?

My life hasn't changed much, I have to be honest. Like any tradegy that happens far away, we quickly forget. Or at least ignore.

What do you think?

I think about Boxing Day and the Tsunami. Do you remember picking me up from the train station and how cold it was that day? You told me about the Tsunami in the first place.

I don't think my life has changed that much. But if I look at it from the perspective of it being the same, I would have to disagree. I'm in an entirely different place in terms of how I feel about myself and my life than I was then. But really, no NOTHING has changed. And I forgot about those victims relatively quickly. Hopefully, I'll be able to attend some sort of memorial ceremony.

9/11 still affects me sometimes though. Everytime I see an airplane in the sky since this day one year ago, I think about planes crashing into buildings and people jumping from those buildings. Every time. Even when there aren't any buildings around.

I don't know what to think. 9/11 still makes me cry.
But that is because in some ways I can almost justify the Tsunami and Hurricane- they are nature, as far as it goes... no human caused them, no human meliciously set out to destroy all those homes, and lives. I am sorry for the loss, but you couldn't stop it. 9/11 is different.
The thing is, I am slightly soft-hearted. I remember being on a boat and crossing the English channel and tearing-up at the thought of all the dead bodies and people who died and were forever in the water.
I also feel sad every time someone says something about 'friday the 13th' I don't think of it as a bad-luck day, I think of all those men who were killed, masacred, betrayed by their own because they knew too much. The knights-templar.

How can you change though? it takes somethign very drastic, almost beyond your own control to change your day to day life. I have not/would not change my day to day habits and life because of fear or an event, but my thought process has changed, and that is something.
I still stop and remember. As long as people do that... 9/11 is still current enough to be thought of, to jar people. What about those who died at the hands of the Unibomber? the Gulfwar? the Vietnam war? WW2, WW1, the war of 1812, the war of independance for gods sake? and those are only the american ones...
Who thinks of those who died unless it somehow affects us?

I do remember that. Makes me think of other things - where were you when events happened, or heard about them? 9/11, for example, I didn't know about until my plane landed in Ireland. And then it was all a little spotty.

I have to admit; I look at airliners differently, too. You know we're righ t under a flight path. Sometimes they come over so low - and I think, 'well, it is possible...'
